I made up this list one day, just because. And also because I think I'm funny I guess. :)
You might be the mom of young kids if...
*You have broken up fights over who gets to sprinkle the 'cheese' in the Macaroni and Cheese.
*You keep track of the bodily functions of another human being.
*Before heading into a movie together, you have accidentally turned to your spouse and asked him if he needs to go potty first.
*The first time you heard 'Call Me Maybe' was Cookie Monster singing it on Sesame Street.
*The #1 question you ask each day is "did you flush the potty and wash your hands?"
*You have this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment right after you have sucked a booger from someone's nose.
Sometimes I love finding the humor in motherhood. :) In all seriousness though, I feel so grateful that I get to be the mom of young kids. My oldest is slowly entering that realm of ‘older kid’ instead of ‘little kid’ and it has made me reflect on some of the things I love about mothering young children.
*I love that they want to hold my hand and still call me ‘mommy.’
*I love watching them intently make something like a noodle necklace, and then go for weeks wearing it.
*I love that when I say ‘let’s go to the park’ they act like I have just suggested doing the most exciting thing in the world and yell ‘yaaaay!’
*I love that when I give them an ice cream cone they can’t eat it without getting some of it smudged all over their face.
*I love it when they find a pair of shoes my husband or I have left out and start walking with them all over the house.
*I love it when they bring me a picture book and ask me to read it to them.
*I love hearing the silly ways they pronounce some words (for example my little girl used to call her swimsuit her swim soup…it was cute every single time, I never got over how cute that was).
*I love that they still ask if they can have a snuggle with me.
*I love that my legs are a portable slide. Anytime I happen to sit down and put them at an angle, someone will be sliding down them saying "wee!"
*I love smelling my kids after they’ve had a bath and they’re in their jammies.
*I love when I suddenly find things all over the house that show little kids live here…collections of random objects, line ups of cars or other toys, little hiding places for special things, or even sometimes the stash of candy wrappers they hid away after sneaking into something they knew they shouldn’t have.
I love being the mom to little kids. It is not always perfect. I am not perfect. Some days are hard. I know I make many mistakes. But I do try so hard to enjoy this stage of my life and I still think being a mother is one of the best things I’ve ever done.
What would you add to my list? :)
The three little chickadees who call me mom. :)
