Priorities

A few days ago I was teaching my kids about the word 'priorities' and what it means. I explained to them that you can tell what a person's priorities are by what they spend their time doing. I then asked them if they could tell what mommy's priorities are. After thinking about it for a few seconds, my oldest then responded "ummmm...I think your priority is sleeping!" It made me laugh, and of course I couldn't disagree. Sleeping has definitely been one of my priorities since I had him! :)

In all seriousness though, after that conversation it made me think about whether or not my children can see what is most important to me by the way I live. Am I an example of someone living a Christ-centered life? Do they catch me saying my prayers or reading my scriptures as often as they catch me checking my phone or updating my Facebook status? Do they know that I cherish and love being their mom, that it's not a burden or a chore but something I feel so grateful I get to do? Does my family know and feel they are one of my top priorities?

I am not perfect, but I hope my children can see what's important to me by the way I live. In this world of technology and fast paced lifestyles, and going going going...it is easy to get distracted. It is easy to let things that shouldn't be on the top of our priority list take up most of our time. I find it is something I have to constantly be checking and evaluating to stay where I want to stay. And if I ever want to see if I need to change things up or see if my time is filled with what I want it to be filled with, I know my kids will be there waiting with an honest answer. :)

My four favorite people...they are definitely among my top priorities. :)

I loved this post! Thanks, makes me want to be better at showing my kids and husband what my priorities are too!
